Pleasure of a unique object
In the past, the Provencal tian was used as a terracotta sink, to rinse fruits and vegetables and wash dishes. Which explains its deep shape tightened at the base and flared at the top. It can be with or without a handle, but almost always with a spout to evacuate the rinsing water, originally.
It’s handmade by a potter from Vallauris who perpetuates the tradition of culinary pottery anchored in the city since the seventeenth century. It offers an sgraffito decor, that is to say a scratch drawing on the base of the ceramic, featuring leaves or fruits. Otherwise, the bottom remains of the color of terracotta.
