Nativity scene and figurines

This section is dedicated to a French and Provencal craft related to Christmas and its traditions: the art of santon (little saint). To compose a beautiful Christmas nativity scene, you can totally improvise the decor, but it’s absolutely necessary to have terracotta Provencal santons.
We have chosen to highlight a workshop of santon maker of several generations who realize his creations near Aix en Provence. His French saints are shaped and painted by hand, as tradition dictates. The faces are finely drawn and appear alive.
As soon as you put your santons in your staging, the magic operates. Just add a candle or a light garland to animate a whole Provencal village before your eyes!
